It's Big ....

With more than 2,500 square miles of glaciated mountains to choose from, VHSG offers everything from scenic glacier runs and powder bowls to steep couloirs, exposed ramps and big mountain faces. The cold maritime snow that falls in our region is legendary, enabling us to ski steep terrain with a confidence and sense of security not possible anywhere else in the world. When conditions permit, we access some of the steepest ski terrain in North America. Runs are typically 3,000 to 5,000 vertical feet. Our longest run is 6,200 vertical feet while another skis two and a half miles top to bottom.

Perfect Climate ....

Thompson Pass regularly receives more than 1,000 inches of snow annually. Pacific storms building over the Gulf of Alaska mix with cold Arctic air, delivering some of the most reliable, deep powder in North America. Our location near the Pacific Ocean not only provides large amounts of snow, it also provides moderate temperatures. Though the days are shorter and colder, February and March bring us our deepest powder. Temperatures can drop below zero during these early months but the average is more typically 10-20F.  Then, powder is accompanied by corn snow in the long days of April and May when temperatures average 15-30F.

The Proving Ground ....

Alaska’s eastern Chugach Mountains have been the  epicenter of big mountain skiing for over a decade. Our terrain, pioneered by VHSG for the last fifteen years, remains the proving ground for the world’s elite skiers and riders. Skiing and riding along side the renowned guides at VHSG, you too can safely have access to the best terrain in the world.
