History & legend
Where Alaska heli-skiing was born
Alaska heli-skiing history began at the Tsaina Lodge. Here, the World Extreme Skiing Championship first introduced the world to the slopes of the Valdez Mountains, and two-time WESC champion Doug Coombs founded Valdez Heli-Ski Guides as one of Alaska's very first heli-ski operations.
From this lodge, our guides took to the skies to scout lines in the nooks and crannies of the Chugach Range - an explorational approach that changed the sport forever. Three decades of experience, innovation, and investment later, VHSG still lifts off each morning from the Tsaina, in the epicenter of the best skiing terrain on the planet.

We don't offer reservations; we offer memberships. Built around a core group of skiers and snowboarders who return year after year, our week-long packages welcome groups of up to eight into a community three decades in the making - one dedicated to skiing the finest terrain on Earth.
A mythic bar
A bar as legendary as the lines
Our bar has a reputation all its own, earned over 30 years of celebrating once-in-a-lifetime runs. Ask any extreme skier or Chugach local and they'll tell you: the Tsaina bar is a ride as famous as the ones outside.
We started the party decades ago, and Mother Nature just keeps bringing the refreshments.

The Tsaina kitchen is exceptional - good enough that people drive up the pass just to join us for dinner. Our locally sourced menus showcase fresh Alaska seafood, prime meats, and wild game.
Our team prepares breakfast and lunch for members every day, too - so you're fueled from first light to the last run.
